Chris Musante beats PCA Lime rock record  (Jan. 2010 issue)

Watch Chris Musante and his OS GIKEN Super Lock LSD equipped 1974 Porsche 911 RSR (3.6L naturally aspirated engine) beat the all time PCA record at Lime Rock Park with a time of 54.953. Chris has commented that,"For road racing, OS Super Lock LSD's high percent lockup during deceleration allows deep and effective trail braking and better overall braking. On power exiting of corners is smooth and precise due to the increasing lockup percentage during acceleration. This makes for very fast and predictable corner exit."

Ian Stewart battling with a turbo Miata at Sebring. He was able to best the turbo Miata, and set a new track record at 2:29.9. Ian had been told earlier in the year that a TTC car would never run under 2:30 at this track, so it was very satisfying to break this particular record and establish a new benchmark!

Although Ian won and set a new TTC track record, this video is not the fast lap but rather a lap chasing the Elise. On a side note, Ian also test drove another Mini that day with lighter weight and similar power, but using a Quaife LSD instead of OS Giken; the Quaife-equipped car handled much differently in the corners, and was posting laps about 2-3 seconds slower than the OS-equipped Mini!

06/25/09 Driver: Ian Stewart / TTC OS Giken Mini captures class record at Sebring!

I took the Mini down to Sebring this weekend. It was an absolute OVEN. Played with shocks and tire pressure and got the car down to a 2:33.2 on Saturday, thus taking the win and the track record (previously 2:35.7). Last years TTC national Champion ran a 2:33.7 on a test day just before nationals. It was well over 105 degrees so the following morning when it was only in the high 90's I followed it up with a 2:32.1. That shatters the lap record and shatters last years national champs time which was set in cooler weather.

I couldn't be happier with the OS Super Lock LSD and STR1CD clutch package.
The car demonstrated zero on-throttle understeer coming out of the corners and provided excellent and predictable corner entry. Everyone at the event was extremely impressed with what our Mini could do. I am very impressed guys. I couldn't be running these lap times with out you!!!

Additional Video Comments:
(Car in front was the 2nd place car in its class - Turbo Miata which ran a 2:33.8)

The OS Superlock-equipped Team Scion secures back-to-back wins! Dan Gardner and the Jackson-Dawson Communications team take the victory at the Willow Springs Performance Touring sprint race as well as class championship at the 3-hour WERC endurance race at Thunderhill. A wonderful testament to superior driver skill taking advantage of the best tools at his disposal, Dan Gardner piloted the tC during the sprint race, taking an early lead. The amazing part is that Dan was bumped off the track, wound up in last place, and fought his way back to the top to take the win by a 10-second margin! Even more amazing is that Team Scion finished the sprint, scrambled back to prep the tC for the endurance race, and then hit Thunderhill for another win in their class (E1), with a 6th place overall finish. Of course, the OS Superlock did its duty to apply power effectively to the tarmac reliably throughout both races!
Congrats to Dan and the J-D / Team Scion crew!!!

Before, I always felt that I couldn't put down power coming out of corners; I could hear the engine rev up, but the car just wasn't accelerating. Now with the OS Giken, it feels like I can put down two black rubber lines! After installing the OS Giken I was actually getting power on oversteer coming out of corners; I was so used to having to mash down on the gas pedal to get going. But once I got out of that bad habit, the car feels now very controllable. I like to do a lot of throttle steering, and with the OS Giken I have one more valuable tool to go as fast as possible.
I've never used anything other than an OEM Torsen, but I understand that other clutch type diffs can give you push going into a turn (I hate push!) but I feel no push from the OS Giken. The OS Giken has transformed how my car delivers its power to the ground and I truly believe that I now have a big advantage over my competitors that don't have one.

OGK goes under 2:00 at Buttonwillow  (May. 2009 issue)
4/19/09 Emilio Cervantes / 949Racing

I tested the diff for the first time at the super tight and bumpy Streets of Willow course and the difference was immediately noticeable. I have driven every differential available for the Miata including my own custom built FC RX7 clutch type so I have a lot to compare to. Honestly, I was skeptical and wasn't expecting that much improvement with the OS Giken Super Lock but it blew me away at how much sooner I could jump on full throttle right after turning in even if the tires were cold. The car would just hunker down, rotate a bit to take a set and accelerate. No drama.

In this video of the record lap at Buttonwillow, I'm at full throttle immediately after turning in and stay there even though I'm putting a tire in the dirt, hitting the turn exit curbing, making little steering input mistakes.. and it doesn't matter. The car just stays hooked up and accelerating without going sideways. In the slow off camber and rising "Offramp" turn (T2) I hit full throttle right after braking and you don't hear any wheelspin where I used to fight wheelspin all the way to track out 100 ft later. In the long 4th gear right hand decreasing radius "Sweeper" I breathe the throttle slightly to tuck in the nose the smoothly go back to full throttle while exiting over the curb and it was as easy and smooth as driving a video game. Again, no drama.

You can't even hear the engine note fluctuate there it was so smooth. To me that's the ultimate test of a diff, being able to throttle steer on the limit without wasting a drop of available traction from the tires. Turning into "Sunrise" and "Bus Stop" you can hear throttle adjustments on entry to rotate the car into the turn quickly and precisely and it still rotates freely like an open diff, not pushing like every other clutch type I've tried. When I suddenly get back on throttle at the apex, there is no sudden jerk or tail kicking out, just smooth controllable weight transfer.

I think that's the MAGIC of the Lock Timing Control System (LTCS). Overall for me, the OS Giken Super Lock sets a new paradigm for every aspect of what a I expect from a differential; smooth as butter, hooks up like locked diff, no understeer on entry and is utterly bombproof. Knowing what I know now, I'd pay twice as much for it.
It's the real deal!

One Lap Of America Sebring Porsche 911 GT2  (May. 2009 issue)
5/05/09 Peter Lier / Ian Stewart, OS Giken Superlock LSD equipped!

Here is footage of Peter and Ian taking 2 easy wins at Sebring International Raceway, clocking times at 2:18.07. This is amazingly fast for a 3400lb Porsche with street tires! These seasoned drivers are battling at a multitude of race tracks with a field of Vipers, GT-R's, Corvettes, etc. for the championship of the "One Lap of America" series. Based on the cross-country "Cannonball" series which became popular in the 1970's, it has evolved to a competition where drivers compete at a racetrack, then drive the same car to the next event, race again, and then repeat the process for 9 days! Needless to say, the series is a testament to the durability of the components they use for competition. When it comes to the differential, there is no doubt that it will be the last thing Peter and Ian will need to worry about failing, and will provide the most efficient, consistent, and reliable power transmission to the wheels!

TTC Homestead Mini Cooper S  (Apr. 2009 issue)
4/18/09 Maitland Importers Inc. , OS Giken, RMW , Mini Cooper S at Homestead

Here is a video of Ian Stewart driving the Maitland Importers, Inc. Mini at Homestead Raceway in Florida. On this day he was running at the same time with about 15+ other Mini's (different group) and was faster than the fastest Mini from the other group by a margin of over 15 seconds! In his own class he took the championship, beating out a host of 350z's by more than 2 seconds! After watching this video, take a look at videos of other Mini's running on the same track. You will notice a vast difference in on-throttle timing during corner exit. With the OS Superlock, understeer is virtually eliminated, allowing for much higher corner exit speeds and resulting in reduced lap times. Special thanks for the video and congrats to Ian and Maitland Importers, Inc. for such a dominating victory at the event!
